The concentration of toxic industrial chemicals in the blood of humans is well documented and there is clear evidence that the environmental load of synthetic hormone disruptors, such as BPA, is leading to dysfunction in children. As a member of the American Chemical Society for 43 years, I am interested in conducting a survey of members working with specific chemicals to determine whether there is a correlation between exposure and the higher rates of certain cancers among the group.
Of course, I would need the cooperation of both the American Chemical Society and the American Cancer Society. In addition, I would seek the collaboration of an epidemiologist to frame the questions, which could be answered anonymously over the internet.
Since the production of BPA and its polymers is a $6 billion industry and the American Chemical Council is a powerful lobby, it will be difficult to replace polycarbonates. I know that, but what I don't know is the concentration of BPA in the blood of chemists and chemical plant operators so that I can correlate it with the incidence of certain cancers and dysfunction among their offspring.
