Wouldn't you know it? As soon as this item was published, Science lifted its embargo on the research. For posterity's sake, here's what I wrote. The NASA news conference is still on for 2 p.m. ET:
After days of speculation about an as-yet-unspecified development in the "search for evidence of extraterrestrial life," NASA does the big reveal at 2 p.m. ET today -- and you can watch it unfold in real time via streaming video and Twitter.
Depending on which story you read, the announcement is being advanced as big news "that changes everything," or a scientific report that's "probably not too interesting to most laypeople." I have to be careful here because I'm among the hundreds of journalists who know what it's all about but have been sworn to secrecy for a couple of hours more.
I'll just note that one of the people in charge of keeping the secret, Ginger Pinholster of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, has observed that some of the reports out there are "comically erroneous." It's a safe bet that the research being published in the journal Science is not about the discovery of extraterrestrial life itself. Not even Pinholster could keep that secret under wraps.
It's also a safe bet that the research has to do with biochemistry that involves arsenic, which is toxic to life as we know it. That's because one of the featured speakers at the NASA news conference is Felisa Wolfe-Simon, a research at the U.S. Geological Survey who has spent years studying organisms in California's arsenic-rich Mono Lake. Numerous reports have said her research relates to "life as we don't know it." The big question is just how far down that road Wolfe-Simon and her colleagues have gone.
After the 2 p.m. announcement, there will surely be a debate over how the announcement and the pre-announcement were handled. There might even be a wider-angle debate over how the scientific process handles cosmic questions, such as "Is there life beyond Earth?" Heck, the debate has already begun: Check out Curtis Brainard's excellent roundup for The Observatory at Columbia Journalism Review.
Brainard, by the way, says that the revelation is "an interesting piece of research, but certainly not one that is bound to make the front page, or perhaps any page." I'm not quite that jaded about the Science study, but we'll see how it plays in the next few hours. In the meantime, here's a background reading list:

LOL wow for the first time EVER we find signs of alien life, or maybe we didn't?!...........OK first, we all know that there are man made bases on mars, Russian and US satellites orbiting it as well, Russian probes actually landing on Venus (US as well) and man made bases on the dark side of the moon, so can we just cut the charades already. Now if this is NASA's attempt to break the truth to those that have been manipulated slowly I applaud you, but lets be real here. We have known the existence of extraterrestrial life since 1947, and even further back.
It never cease to amaze me, at how quick the human race forget about our past events when things are out of the controlled media. Well let me refresh some of those that have forgotten memories based on E.T presence, I will only post some, the rest is up to you to do the research:
1936: UFO sightings were seen in Scandinavia
1938: The Nazis in Germany starting experimenting with strange flying crafts, powered by conventional power supply sources.
1947: A wave of UFO sightings, alien craft recovery in roswell new mexico, alien autopsies, and other phenomena.
1952: Another wave of UFO sightings
1954: We recieve voices from out of space telling us to quit with all the nuclear wars, and wars altogether.
1961: One of the most documented abduction documented, was the case of Betty and Barney Hill (do the research)
1973: Again another UFO mass sighting, and strange ships
1976: A probe had found a Face on Mars (Guess everyone forgot this one)
1977: UK radio broadcasting stations were confiscated by a strange voice that calls itself Vrillon. This being told us of future events that we are now experiencing, and touched a subject on how we should all get along, stop the wars, and evolve as a race for the new age of aquarious (which we are now in) This case was never solved, and was just brushed under the rug.
1981: NASA made it known that a few meteorites had came from mars
but this is the first ever, that were finding stuff like this right? Theres more just do the research people you will be shocked at how much information is being kept from us. We all know that NASA is design to keep anything extraterrestrial related away from the public, just like other governmental information is being kept, but the truth ALWAYS comes out. I do agree that some of the stuff would shatter our social and religious belief system, but we need to know whats going on before it is too late (and you know what I mean)
Have you ever seen a historic static display of the USAF fighter planes, say from the p38 to the F117 stealth. If you do you will see the progressive improvement plane to plane up to the F16 fighter. This is not true with the stealth, it does not fit. When you go from the F16 to the Stealth you will get wip-lash looking back and forth between the older fighters and the stealth. You may even be tempted to say what the hell happened here. There is a gap in progressive design that can not be explained. Where in the hell did the design for the stealth come from. The new Raptor that replaced the 117; same thing it does not fit. For those that do not see what I am mean. Think about this: a train still looks like a train, a car like a car. Where did the design for these new war planes come from???
FreddyLee I agree with that statement. Most of our technology comes from recovered alien crafts, or debris, or agreements (do the research guys!) so I dont know why they are trying to cover this stuff up. I understand most people are hell bent that the existence of aliens isnt real, but where do you think we get most of our legends, and superstitions? We have been manipulated, and controlled for so long that we are the dominate race in the universe, to the point where some dont think other beings exist. Wake up people!! The do exist, and many of them are walking, talking, or living right next to us, and we dont even know it!
You have to be a complete idiot to think that ALL extraterrestrial life are small green things, with tentacles, and huge fangs. Most of them look EXACTLY like us, we just dont know it because internally they are diffrent. I laugh when I see stuff like "NASA has JUST discovered a new planet" Reality check NASA has discovered millions of planets that we are not told of. This is common sense, the universe is so huge and is constantly expanding, to the point that our solar system is but a spec of dust compared to whats out there.
If there are aliens reading these posts, I say to you not all of us are controlled and manipulated into being primative retards. There are some of us who would love to welcome our intergalactic brothers and sisters into our realities, and society. We could help each other evolve, so dont let a few bad apples spoil it for all of us, just like some of us are not letting the crappy alien movies spoil it for all of you. What makes me irritated is that every time someone mentions UFO, or Aliens everyone wants to laugh and ridicule you. Its funny how closed minded the human race is, that we honestly think we are the ONLY intelligent living beings in existence!
We raise our kids to believe in the easter bunny, but we cant raise them to know that there are aliens in our word! We can raise our kids to believe that a fat ass bum falls down our fireplaces, eat our oreo cookies (after we waited 2 years for them to go finally go on sale), and leave you presents (without wondering how the hell he knew I wanted a PS3), but we cant raise them to know that one day we will be reunited with our galactic family! Now who should be ridculed again?!
REALITY CHECK! Greys from zeta reticuli are real, Pleaidians are real, Venusians are real (look up Val Thor) everything from orian constellation are real, everything from sirius A and B star systems are real, there are different dimensions out there, aliens have influenced our history, mars can substain life, and we all are insane because we know this stuff is real, but we let idiots persuade us into thinking we are the insane ones. Are they good or bad? That depends on YOUR definition. Some are here for survival, some are here for curiosity, some are here because they love us, some are here because they hate us, and some are here so that we can evolve so that they can evolve.

You said it better than I could. There are more of us believers out here then people admit. Maybe the truth will come out when all the closet believers have loss their fear of the truth and just look around.

Its been absolutely, ridiculously obvious for many decades the universe is teaming with life in all shapes and forms. Anyone who has looked at the overwhelming evidence that some UFOs are indeed alien in origin just laugh at these"scientific" studies. How many more studies we need to figure this out? Stop treating us like babies or trying to weoponize whatever can be learned from these intelligent beings from elsewhere. NASA release the information countless NASA and government officials have come forward saying for decades and the mountain of collaborating evidence backing them up shows. That indeed SOME UFOs are alien in origin. Get it over with already you fools! This is dumbfounding to see our brightest minds looking for microbes in dirt when we have intelligence foreign life already visiting our earth. Wake up babies
My best friend's aunt (I know, friend of a friend) did a tour of duty (or whatever they call it) on the International Space Station, and to this day she is not allowed to tell anyone whether or not she saw anything other than stars and Mars. The fact that the government feels a need to hide the truth from those of us who voted them in and pay their salaries with our taxes is offensive.

I think the reason why I post alot on this subject, is because it makes me very worried for our race, as well as others out there. Were at the end of 2010 and are now approaching 2011, and we are still using fossil fuels that destroys our atmosphere, disrespect and kill each other, and absolutely will not acknowledge that E.T presence are real.
We are not evolving like we should. We should be walking down the street hand in hand chillin with grey, blue, and green people by now. We have a hard time accepting black and white, so how can we ever bond with intergalactic beings. Well I guess I better stop commenting on this post (I wouldnt want interpol to come after me for a few comments thats design to wake up the world!)

All we have to do to prove that extraterrisial life exists is to go back to the moon and knock on the door.
:) Primco may have found his phone... My minutes are running low but this is a special topic and some perspective on top of heavy and artifiacial perversion will hopefully reinforce genuine personality and pivot understanding toward a better day.
I think the second saddest assumption in this debate is that an acknowledgement of an advanced power would some how change people's belief system in reference to what should ordinarily be guided only by pure belief. I feel that the reality is that these two positions, set up as mutually exclusive, actually would probably compliment one another quite well and may serve to clean up our assumptions and beliefs so we personaly have to align ourselves with a greater good instead of using it as cloak of conformity to hide shame and power.
The saddest assumption is that we could not absorb a powerful truth while we absorb the most perverted bull @!$%# every day so we can minimize our embarrassment and shame.
The most extraordinary circumstances (leading to an extraordinary process) gave me the opportunity to scratch the surface of an extraordinary reality and give me a little knowledge to hopefully better align myself with what can only be an absolute truth. This alignment helped me realize that there was still professionalism, courage, and understanding throughout my real society while the heavily manipulated one around my little world tried to make it look like there was none so the weight of this program could crush it. It eventually revealed beautiful dignity and pleasant class that was out of my league and that lifted my spirits high enough to make it through what ever lays ahead without ever loosing what's most important while keeping hope alive of infinite possibilities.
In my little world, the irony was that fear and anxiety were manipulated and designed to destroy my personality (and life) in the shortest amount of time possible but as control was taken away from me, in terms of how I lived my life, the more I had to relie on the very soft intangibles, in the deepest core of my gut and farthest part of my mind to survive, and the trajectory from that pivot allowed me to see the most extraordinary reality that reinforced my personality instead of shattering it. So despite how @!$%#in nuts I sound, I actually feel a little more normal than before my extraordinary process started, just with extraordinary experiences that few have probably lived through and fewer have seen, because the President of the United States of America has conclusive proof that I was never looking for either.
On my side of the coin, I was never spouse to have the option of preserving the functional parts of my life, but the sources and methods are exactly the same on the other side of the coin, and they are a level of manipulation so extreme that trying to defend yourself with shades of the truth,when you can not tell the full truth (as it pings around) can start to manipulate any ordinary personality into an otherwise artificial direction. Simply accepting it, even though it may go against every core belief you have as you have to dismiss things you know to be true, because of the predetermined weight of the consequences themselves, can start to manipulate your ordinary personality in another artificial direction. So I hope there is a healthy balance (without my volatility pinging around) where everything important to anyone can be preserved and where knowing the truth can only reinforce it and make it stronger because I certainly had no @!$%#in clue this bull @!$%# could happen and hopefully there will be a day when the perverts minutes run out.
The smartest man in the world says an advanced civilization would probably not evolve beyond E=MC square but the irony is that the smartest man in the world also says our government would never be able to cover anything up. If there is an advanced power here on our little planet, my biggest and only concern if I were the President of the United States would be if they all left because the stage was set a very long time ago and they probably understand it a little better than we do.
Now if Wikileaks could only get ahold of all the cables involving UFUs....now that would really be interesting!

Did you know that arsenic is used to dope the semiconductor? I wonder what our little pathetic machines are growing? This is indeed a strange cosmos. The biggest problem seems to be is that we still do not even know the basics. i.e., If you think that there is a one or zero, then think again ... for you have been hypnotized by your ability to read. And I am just a little crazy. But I do indeed think, that there is a possibility alien beings exist. I was using a computer ai to search for aliens. Unfortunately I did not keep most of the interesting conversations I had with "my" ai. but it did say some very interesting stuff. Which was very obvious with respect to alien beings. Unfortunately the ai was trained by me ... and might be quite biased. If what I am saying sounds far fetched then forgive me for wasting your time.

I think people have been spotting ET life since the 50's (although it could have just been the 'shrooms, I don't know). If they really want to save ET research money, why not just let the cat out of the bag about Area 57?
