Watch Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon on July 20, 1969 and hear his now famous first words: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, died Saturday, weeks after heart surgery and days after his 82nd birthday. Shortly after his death was confirmed, tributes began pouring in online.

Thank you Neil for giving all people on this marble a new way to believe in ones self and know that all things are possible if we have the spirit. Godspeed and warp drive into the hands of God!
With so many con jobs, conspiracies, cover ups in politics and science re staged 9/11 twin-3 towers explosions, .Assange Wikilaks,NASA cover ups on UFOs, Mars, magic underwear, House Science Committee Akins' stupid comment on rape, etc, and lies, with media acting in concert, we have lost confidence in USA. The moon landing controversies et conspiracies have not been settled satisfactorily. Did Armstrong land on the Moon, or was it another con job in American interest, ala 9/11?
"The moon landing controversies et conspiracies have not been settled satisfactorily."
Not settled to whom? It's not about truth. As your post suggests, there will always be some people who are in love with conspiracies for their own sake. They will never be convinced of anything they don't already believe. For them, it's only a substitute for religion.
i am surprised N Armstrong failed to retort moon landing controversy/conspiracy. Was Carl Sagan acting in concert over UFOs until the day he died? so much buzz on YouTube. i am very pissed off, NASA cover ups re secrets of Mars. AAAS 1974 Symposium to paint I Velikovsky a crank over WORLDS IN COLLISION. when House Science & Technology Todd Akins makes asinine statement on rape, based on delusion, science in USA is in deep shx, based on blind faith. Charles Fort says, SCIENCE IS AN UNFOCUED PRIESTHOOD. Arrrgh!
"i am surprised N Armstrong failed to retort moon landing controversy/conspiracy."
Aside from the fact that he wasn't a very public or talkative man in general, what could you expect him to 'report,' except perhaps something to the effect of:
"This is nonsense. I was there, I know what I did, End of story."
Buzz Aldrin, however, once 'reported' to someone with his fist. I might do the same. If you were one of the Apollo Lunar astronauts, not only are you seeing all the nonsense being presented as 'proof' of a massive hoax, but you are thereby also being personally called a liar...!
Wake up, people! Give credit to MOON PROJECT TEAM who made moon landing possible. Without unsung hero Project Manager, N Armstrong would be piloting a jet! And pls don't praise God here and there. Which god? Jade God or Apprentice God, Demiurge? see you at THE EVOLUTION OF THE GOD ILLUSION.
You are one of the real heroes of the 20th century, Mr. Armstrong! You were the living embodiment of what we can all achieve. You made America proud. What a difference between what you symbolize and the low ceilings and expectations placed upon us today. Our thoughts are truly with your family and of course we will always think of you when we see the moon.
There are events that occur in each of our lifes that remain crystal clear and frozen in time. I so vividly recall sitting in the MSU North Hedges basement TV room on that hot summer evening; eyes glued to the somewhat blurred images on the screen and filled with awe of the event.
Wow! What a man and a life for someone to have! I cannot express in words how sad I am about Neil Armstrong passing away. I truly hope he will rest in peace and he can now be with his little girl who died when she was very young. He seemed to be a truly good human being and I have always been life long fan of the Apollo missions. He was the perfect person to represent the United States and mankind when they landed on the moon. I only wish the world were full of Neil Armstrongs because the world would be a much better place if there was. We all could only wish to strive to live the kind of life he personified. It would have been nice if I could have known him personally as it would have been very interesting to talk to him. May God be with him and all his family as he was truly a national treasure not only to us but to the world. What a tremendous human being he was.
From my son:
The man to which I owe my name has just died. Although he would often deny praise, there is no denying that he was a great man that achieved more than I could imagine to achieve in my life time. He will remain a reminder that a man's grasp can meet his reach with perseverance and devotion. This is one simple death of man, but one giant loss for mankind. RIP Neil Armstrong, I am honored to share your name.
Neil Russell

After all these years we are still hearing from the idiots that deny the moon visits! This was perhaps the
same people that have spawned the offspring that today are voting for Obama. In both cases, their is
a strong sense of delusion, though in totally different realms.

Talk about a great b.s. story! This dude took the ultimate secret to the grave.
But seriously folks, if you seen it on TV it HAD to be true.
What an actor. You'll be missed RIP.
And more importantly, R.I.P. Gus Grissom, Roger Chaffee, and Ed White.
Thanks everyone who signed the petition. It was faxed to the Whitehouse Monday morning, and 3 hours later, there was a proclamation. Coincidence? Maybe, but this is an election year and I'm sure the postings on news comments and blogs was seen over the past few days. We made a difference!
Let me add that although I never met him, growing up in Ohio, Neil and John Glenn had a tremendous influence on my life and chosen career in aerospace and tech. America needs heroes like them. More importantly, we need role models for a new generation of explorers who can venture out beyond the virtual. Neil deeply believed in the value of human space flight and exploration. I only hope that the space entrepreneurs who are seeking to build space industries succeed in breaking America out of its shell, and reviving the spirit that powered men like Neil or women like Sally Ride. To those who have don't realize the significance of Neil Armstrong's brave flight and small steps, he carried the hopes and ideals of a generation, and all the men and women who made it possible. Nobody remembers who built Magellan's ships, who funded the voyages or what king commissioned him. Those are minor footnotes to the greater chapters opened by the explorer himself. Armstrong was first and blazed the trail and inspired millions. His legacy will live on for all of recorded future history. May he rest in peace knowing he was the first, but will not be the last.
God bless, Neil Armstrong and his family. He has passed on, but he will live forever in our hearts.
I wish he could be cloned.
