WPTV YouReport
WPTV's viewers in South Florida sent in numerous pictures of Wednesday's "cloud angel."
A "cloud angel" rose over South Florida on the day that a new pope was named at the Vatican — resulting in snapshots and comments that multiplied like the biblical loaves and fishes. But experts say Wednesday evening's apparition is no supernatural miracle. Rather, it's a perfectly natural phenomenon that took on special meaning because of Pope Francis' selection.
Several pictures came in to WPTV in West Palm Beach. Some saw a slim, winged figure in the cloud. "Wow, I wonder if Pope Francis ordered that!" one commenter, Thom George, said on WPTV's Facebook page. Others saw different shapes — a sea monkey, perhaps, or even Lucifer's satanic figure in the sunset.
Ian Loxley, photo gallery editor for the Cloud Appreciation Society, saw a cloud. A very interesting cloud.
"It is difficult to be definitive about what the formation is without knowing what went before. It could be Cirrus if high enough; however, it appears to be lower than the background Altocumulus which is the teaser. My best shot would be a virga remnant from an aircraft contrail," Loxley said in an email.
"Sorry not to be able to give an absolute answer," he continued. "It is, however, a very interesting capture that would sit nicely in our 'Clouds That Look Like Things' section of the gallery."
The society's cloud galleries show off all sorts of shapely formations, including doves, dolphins, UFOs, witches and, yes, angels. Fewer things are better-suited than clouds for this kind of pattern recognition, which goes by the name of pareidolia. Our brains are so wired up to recognize faces and other humanlike patterns that we can easily see them in inanimate objects.
"Pareidolia" is a combination of Greek words that essentially means "wrong shape." It's the same phenomenon that gives rise to the Face on Mars, or Mickey Mouse on Mercury, or New Hampshire's now-noseless "Old Man of the Mountain." In the case of the cloud angel, the religious connection was heightened by the coincidence of the papal conclave.
Could the cloud angel be a hoax? That's not likely, given the fact that WPTV received pictures from several viewers in different locations. Also, there are much crazier cloud shapes out there. But if you want to look at Wednesday's coincidence as a sign from above ... well, that's a matter of faith, not atmospheric science.

SCARY!!!!!!
What is? You mean how stupid people can be? I agree, it's downright terrifying.
it's not a cloud angel ... it's tinkerbell over disney world !
Photoshopped!!
I once moved to this apartment in LA and when I was in the bathroom I looked up at the window and saw a cross formed by the sunlight because the window was textured. So I took a picture of it and forgot about it.
Well, a couple of weeks later the LA Times had a picture exactly like the one I took in its front page, top center. It was the biggest news that day. And then on the local TV news.
People will believe what they want to believe, what can you do?
Why should any of you really care if somebody sees an angel, while someone else sees a gymnast? You're as biased as NBC when they cited this is "no miracle." Whatever it is, it's beautiful.
Has this image been photoshopped/chopped? It appears to have a divider downwards from the "breast" denoting separate legs...the head is well formed as are the feet, arm and hand (fingers). It looks like its been doctored. I would like to see similar photo's taken at the same time to ensure this was authentic. If authentic then indeed I can see how the devote view this as a "sign" which I call a coincidence albeit a very good one.
Cloud angel?
Nope! Chuck Testa!
now people aren't allowed to look at a cloud and think it looks like an angel?! the attack on anything religious these days is quite frightening.
Of course you can. Nobody is preventing you from clinging to your religious beliefs. And if you want to see angels in the clouds that's your prerogative. But expect to draw some criticism if you claim it's a miracle.
The god fearers at it again. it looks like a minor version of a dust devil, not uncommon in warm climates - sort of like a mini mini tornado or as someone else said - a variant due to winds of the twin horizontal mini tornados that are left by jet aircraft
Thats the reason that so many jets have those vertical rudders on the end of wings. It prevents much of the mini tornado effecta and gives the plane about 4-%5 fuel economy improvement
Remember the story about how jesus healed a small number of blind people. Actually its called pscyhological blindness caused most commonly in periods of extreme stress, eg war.
The interesting thing is that if you take these "blind" people and have them wllk down an obstacle course, thtey will unerringly avoid the obstaclss Usually the effect of this psych type blindness - where they see but dont see in their currreent condition goes away in a few days
But the godfearers - promote ignorance and hatred. Remember the mess in Northern Ireland - protestants murdering catholics etc - of two religions that except for some emphasis and details are identical. But religion lets people put a label on others and its off to see how many of the "others" get murdered.
Remember the story of the holy inquistion - 100,000 people kangaroo courted , tortured and burned at the stake to keep the heretics from finindg freedom of religion
The xtian crusades that killed tens of millions of muslimss from about 1000 to 1500 AD, Theres still a big hole in manhattan to show for that inssanity
Then there was the hatred of the Jeews that led to the election of a catholic madman who rode that hatred to power and besides 6 million Jews, about 5 million other minorities including all the gays he could find were tosseed in the death camps
Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels, Eichmann, Menegle were all catholic. to see how the churches in germany etc supported the crazy nazis to gain power and control aand wealth go to

Why was RATZInger forced out of office - the german pope in 2009 UNexcommunicated Bishop Williamson , a holocaust denier
http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/erbe/2009/02/05/pope-should-excommunicate-holocaust-denying-bishop-williamson?msg=1 - comments
And heres a long list of articles about the catholic church and its anything but celebate , prison mentality priests

AS christopher hitchens said - CONSERVATIVE RELGION POISONS EVERYTHING
gumps-
my point was that someone looks at a cloud and think it's looks like an angel. i didn't say anything about it being a miracle. so much for respecting the fact that someone has different beliefs/opinions then yourself. i shouldn't be surprised. this is the new oblama america.
Did I say you claimed a miracle? Oh, and now you want to blame Obama? Why am I not surprised? You see things that don't exist...
Wonder how much I could get for it on E-Bay?
Wow, people can be so stupid. When Obama won the last election, I saw an Jesus in my soup.
TFNJ - yup, you just reinforced your assertion.
@tfnj...when obama was elected..I saw shyt in mine
...and the trolls are off!
Better put different ingredients in your soup justsayin..fool. Only a fool would put shyt in his soup!
You would see your sore loser face if you looked in your soup.
LOL @ all of you !!
This 'angel cloud' is nothing more than a "collective illusion"---- which is a description of those that are desperate to seek confirmation of their belief in their surroundings. So, in this case, seeing an odd-shaped cloud has meaning for them. For the rest of us, it's just nature, as the article states.
As an Obamanite, I see him everywhere. Especially in foods. This morning it was my omelet.
If it's not burned into a cheese sandwich then it didn't happen
I doubt God would send us a good sign for the catholic church. That church is where the anti christ will attempt to unite religions. How many commandments has the roman catholic church broken?? Who would follow a church who changed the holy day from the God appointed sabbath to Sunday. Rediculous beliefs... Let's pray to beads and medallions right after God said to not make idols of stone metal or wood. Rediculous...
I can see little horns on its head, must be a sign from below!
It's spelled ridiculous.
It's always the fools who are the english majors. Sorry we couldn;t all focus on a language we were speaking since we were one. Some of us went into fields that actually matter.
Charles, you mean you've been speaking this language for 11 years and you STILL can't get it right? Wow.
try 32 years haha
misspelled or not my point came across in the way I intended. If you wish to manipulate it in your mind then that's for you to absorb. Eventually all that manipulation will become a cancer in your mind. see truth and ignore the insignificance.
@ Charles 69-
Organized Religion is a joke and it really doesn't matter which denomination you prefer. There's money to be made and crooked hypocrites, posing as pastors only getting rich from it. Then you have the supposed "good people", flocking to church, singing and waving their hands in the air... Accepting Christ into their hearts, hoping that god will forgive a weeks worth of judgments, cheating, adultery, profanity, lies and everything else associated to our hateful culture. Why is that any better? So before you bash someones religion, take a closer look at yours, or your own life. Hug a kid, tell your wife you love her, help a stranger, pay good fortunes forward and treat every man, woman and child as if he/she were your own blood. That's what God really expects us to do.
First of all, the word is Ridiculous.... This has to do with faith. If you don't have it, you don't have it. I for one have little faith in human institutions of all kinds but, do believe in the power of love, sacrifice, committment and strong character. Unfortunately, a lot of people lack the ability to see past their own selfish, immediate wants. That is where the "hateful" behavior somes into play. Any time a person forgets that others live in this world and are deserving of the same respect, hateful behaviors come into play. For me Christ Jesus is the embodiment of love and that is why I have chosen to be His disciple...for no other reason...and to this point, it has been successful and productive...
Well your first mistake is thinking I am part of an organized religion. Your second mistake is assuming these traits are church alone. These are found in governments, companies, even social circles. e.g. human nature. Your third mistake was assuming I don't know the true nature of God and why we live.
I am someone who gave his last 20 dollars while in a strange city with a week remaining to a woman who was eating out of the trash. I saw in her eyes distrust as if I would ask for something. I smiled and told her to take it. I watched her walk away with the money. She walked down the street to a window. She ordered food. I then watched her take the food she bought, walk into an alley across the street open the canopy on a truck and give the food to some children hiding inside. I never cried more in my life. She was starving and so were her kids. Then my friend who was with me asked me why I would do that. That day I learned about what God wants for us and that day I also learned how terrible people can be through my friend. I know all to well why we live, why we die and why some people have an experience in death and others don't.
We live only to make a decision to know God or not. That is all. If you choose to not know him then he won't force himself on you. Don't let the corruption of the churches sway you from God. The true nature of God is more amazing and beautiful then you can ever know in this life. Want to know him and he will want to know you. Would you let someone live with you if they didn't want to know you?
bleh I put it in the wrong reply >.>
the above was for disapointedinusa
This is for Charles 69. I couldn't agree with you more on your comments. God Bless you....!!!
Thank you Rita God bless you too. <3 There is a misconception about God that was put there by those who wish to lead us to the edge of a cliff. It's up to all of us who can see to help others see. We all come from God and we all return to God. I would love it if everyone could come with!
I just see one horn. Must be a unidemon.
Amen, charles69 - Amen . . . to both 5.8 and 5.11 . . .
charles69 - You make this huge assumption that there is a god.
It never ceases to amaze me how people like charles69 tries to defend his inability to proofread and correct his misspellings. And no, I wasn't an English major.
funny. some blinds are calling people that can see foolish. lol
For you God doubters please give me a reasonable explanation for the existence of the universe and everything in it. For you, a magnificent creature with elements that "evolution" could never have done. Even Darwin admited that the human brain and eye destroyed his hypothesis( it has not yet qualified as a true theory) and said that the human brain was so complex it had to be created; the eye as well...just reading these posts takes millions and millions of chemical reactions per second. A second challenge, show me how "evolution" managed cell differentiation. Many men far wiser than us have looked into the heavens and concluded that there had to be a creating force behind such a vast and magnificent universe. Even many scientists are now believing that the universe was created for one purpose: to create and support life. And for those of you who have difficulty with the six day creation consider this: in the ancient Hebrew (Palo) languages order was translated into morning and chaos was translated into evening. The 24 hour day began with Adam and that is the 6,000 year caculation. So from the creation point there were 6 cycles of chaos to order, each cycle refining order and decreasing chaos. the first cyvle went out at light speed, the second sometime ater with the same speed, and on through the remaining 4 cycles. Dr.
gerald Schroeder has written several books regarding this issue. Dr. Schroeder is a physiicist of note and he determines the age of the universe at 15.75 billion years. His calculations coincide exactly with the Genisis account. So, from Gods point of creation the first cycle(day) went out at the speed of light (300,000,000 meters per second) this cycle traveling 60 seconds X60 minutes x 24 hours. Cycle two was then sent out at the same speed, but cycle one was way ahead of it. then cycle three and so forth through the cycles. From God's viewpoint He sent 6days(cycles) one after the other, but when it had expanded and travelled it was 15.75 billion years. It has only been narrow minded anti science that has vaused so much trouble. Remember those true scientists who were burned at the stake and hung because they said the earth was round and that the earth revolves around the sun. The religious ignoramuses thought that the sun went around the earth...so do not base your rejection of God and His creation based upon the ignorant misconceptions of mitered, religious hard noses.
Keith, nobody can offer you a "reasonable explanation" that doesn't include some assertion about a divine purpose, so why bother?
Regarding your assertion about Darwin, it is a common ploy among Creationists to take quotes out of context in order to support their silly notions.
And I see you've also elected to bring up Dr. Schroeder, a Jewish physicist (not physiicist - you should really try using the spell checker), who tried to reconcile the ridiculous notion held by Creationists that the universe is only 6000 years old by stretching of space-time. A stretch indeed.
Oh, and a remedial English lesson: clothes are hung, people are hanged. It would appear that science isn't the only subject you never mastered.
keith babcock - You bend the words in the Bible in such ridiculous ways to fit it into the model of a multi-billion year universe and then you have the nerve to suggest that a universe can't exist without a creator, while failing to even wonder how your imagined creator was created. Do you suggest that he just always existed in which case why isn't that argument acceptable as to how the Universe itself exists? Do you suggest that this creator willed itself into being from nothingness in which case why is that argument not acceptable for the Universe itself? See my point? A creator figure isn't even necessary... to quote Carl Sagan.
I am sure that Gumps will correct any spelling or grammar errors in my post. Be gentle! :)
Keith show us proof besides a book that "God" made us. Then you win this argument, and Charles you take the same book rather seriously. And would a combined religion be so bad? Peace on Earth and no more fighting over religion? Sounds good to me. Honestly.
Looks more like Tinkerbel.
You mean Tinkerbell?
I would think if God wanted to put an angel in the sky he could do a better job than that. Unless you think God prefers abstract art.
Billions of water molecules arranged in a way to make millions around the world see an angel isn't good enough? Sometimes subtle is all it takes to remember where we come from.
Uh, no. There was no "intelligent" design involved in this cloud formation.
I saw a Volkswagen Beetle the other day. God must be a German.
Why is it that God always messes with us? Never an unambiguous symbol, never a miracle that can't be explained by science ... God is a superhuman tease. He could write in the sky, in Aramaic, in Latin, in ancient Greek, "Hi. I'm God. I exist." He could regrow the limb of an amputee, instead of just causing cancer to go into remission, which could simply be interpreted as the work of the sufferer's immune system. But no, it's shadows on walls, burn marks in tortillas, screwy cloud formations.
If he wrote "I am here" in the sky it would take away from the true meaning of life. We are here to make a conscious choice to know him. In the last days we will see Jesus come with the word of God in the sky. He will bring us home on that day. All those who chose to know him.
He made the angels with him and they knew him. Look what happened. They rebelled and were cast out of his home because they didn't grow into their power. They lacked appreciation. That's what sets us apart from the angels. We have opportunity to grow in love with him. We are spirits in body here to make a choice. Then we die and become our true nature. Want to know him, make sure you're not a stranger and he will make a place for you in his home when the time really matters. These subtleties we experience in life like this cloud or just to make us smile and remind us that we have a real home. All this suffering is an illusion.
If people want to believe it was an angel , so be it. Maybe some people need that in their lives. I know there were times I wish I saw one . People chose to seek comfort any way they can in desperate times. Nothing wrong with that. JMHO !!
Maybe then we can ask him some questions, such as why did God endow man with an innate curiosity and then punish us (original sin) for exercising that curiosity? Or why did he put so much time and effort (over 17 billion years) to create such a vast universe only to create man in only the last 100K years?
And look what happens when we exercise that choice - if we choose not to accept him we burn in Hell, right? Love me or I'll destroy you in an unimaginably painful way! Yup, that's really a loving God.....
All I can say Gumps, is that you are going to have one hellofa surprize
No, not really.
No surprises. All gods are imaginary.
People are stupid. Religious people just tend to be stupider than the rest of us.
Please don't go about preaching like you're a man of sound mind. This post alone reflects your immaturity and bad intentions. If your wisdom is so vast then it beams across the universe one atom wide. You fail to see the grandeur around you that is life and a gift. And you fail the rest of us with your pathetic echoes from closed hearts and minds that came before you. You gonna make an easter bunny reference next? So cliché...
@engesq..there's the pot calling the kettle black
I am anything but stupid and have been a follower of Christ Jesus my entire life. He is my example of how a life should be lived... I retired at 40 and have no worries financial or otherwise. I have loyal friends, a good husband who also retired in his 40's, we travel and enjoy life. We have harmed nobody. We help others constantly and continue to thrive in ways I can't begin to explain. Maybe instead of telling me I am stupid, you should try to live the way I live... Maybe you will find something other than bitterness and name calling to occupy your time.
Lol! A christian saying someone has a closed mind. Now that's funny. :D
believing in God takes a lot more mind and heart then someone who can be so lazy as to not think about him. So yes I said it and I stand by it. You are welcome to join us or you can go back to sleep. The choice is yours.
No, believing in God takes a curious mixture of imagination but no reason. You have to have "faith", right? Like those people who followed Jimmy Jones. Or Jim & Tammy Bakker...
Wow gumps you just never quit do you. I said believing in god takes more mind and heart then someone who is too lazy to think about god and that is what i meant. Don't send me your "no this is what is true" because that's your feeble philosophy not mine. I said what I meant troll man. If that's what you want to think then by all means do so but know that no one here absorbs your diluted message. You came to an article about faith. Your hollow heart holds no value here.
You wish to deny god that is on you. No one can make you see when you look. That's a choice you make on your own. All I ask is you stop with your petty negativity. The one thing you aethiest don't get is how you look when you try to convince the world there is no god. You do it in a mean spiteful and rather wretched manner. Religious people can only assume evil works through you to attempt to deceive the good hearts. You have a message and want people to hear it in full value? Then quit being a douche. Be sincere instead...
The UnCatholic people just don't get it. We don't pray to beads, or worship statues. Everybody can pray. If you want to run your fingers along beads, at the same time, that's Okay. We have NEVER worshipped the Statues. They just represent a particular Holy person, someone whom we believe has led an unselfish, God like life. Someone we may be trying to remember, and or imitate. We pray to God, in Jesus' name, through the Holy Spirit. With St. Patrick's Day coming, I can use the 3 leaf (lucky) clover, as an example of The Trinity. 1) The Father, 2) The Son, and 3) The Holy Spirit. I hope this clears things up. I think this Pope selection, was very good. Time will tell. I Love the Cloud Angel. How nice for it to appear, coinciding with the selection of the New Pope Francis'. <3
I understand what you're saying but please try to understand the wolf in sheeps clothing. A vast majority of catholics are peist people who love god and want to do right by him. The issue is you're raised into this man made church that mas murdered to gain wealth in the name of god, elects leaders in the name of god even though god never said this should be done, break his holy commandment. he only asked 10 things and yet this church flaunts it's disobedience. You say the statues and medallions are harmless but do they not take away your focus from God himself? You may say no but you know it's true.
Read revelations I think it's 17? About Mystery on the seven headed beast. The Roman Catholic Church is the one drunk on the blood of the saints. I say this only because you love God. To know his light is to have nothing hidden because the light chases away all darkness. Be wise and don't follow this church. The path to God comes from with in. Everything else is a distraction.
Just about every church and every religion has murdered, lied, and cheated. It is the nature of churches as an institution that is run and managed by men (or women as the case may be). The institution is not the religion in any case. I just find it kind of funny that people who keep calling themselves Christian are so busy judging others about faults that they themselves (or their own churches as the case may be) have done.
Just remember the key commandments of Jesus and stop worrying or condemning what other people are or are not doing. (In case you've forgotten those commandments, it's 1) love god, 2) love your neighbor as yourself, and 3) don't judge others unless you yourself ar perfect). The other path only leads to blame, hate, and eventually inquisitions.
Yeah Churches have done those things. So has every other type of entity. Why should you single churches out as if they're due a double standard? Chastise your government, criticize your schools, look at the bullies in schools. I can go on and on but the issue here is human nature not just the church. The US government today is more corrupt than the vatican has ever been. Why not go attack them? They deserve as much of your hate mongering as this church does.
I found it funny that you preach against judging through judging me. Monkey see monkey do? Well minus I wasn't pushy or annoying like you. I am actually here trying to help people understand the danger in this church. You just want to sound like you know something.
Charles69: it is not just the Roman church, it is all man made religions, all denominations.....the Romans have just been at it longer. The true Church is composed of people who believe in the Word and in God...they can be found ecverywhere, even, sometimes in the denominational buildings
Keith, that is why I said churches not Roman Catholic Church. I am by no means an advocate the the catholics. I believe that church to be the anti christs foundation.
Oh really Charles? Do tell us of a time that a Witch Coven or a Wiccan Coven has caused harm upon this Earth. Please I beg you to inform me. Cause as far as I've seen, Christians are the ones who cause just about every problem on this Earth. You just sitting here and saying all of this is sinning. Make sure you're perfect before judging others.
And Lauren, you should strive to be good in your own way, not strive to be like others. Sure they lived a "holy" and "God like" life, but they are showing you examples, not telling you to follow them by the latter.
Great commentary Lauren.
People are so stupid.....
Not as good as a grilled cheese Mary, but close.
I would've liked to see this. An Angel and her harp (to right of her feet and above the palm). Maybe it is a sign coinciding w/ the Pope that He's going to change this awful world we've become. Haters...if you don't believe in it do you really think the rest of us care about your opinions?? You won't need to give them where your headed anyway! :-)
Wow so you would condemn people because they don't agree with your opinion of a cloud? Then you spread your negativity with words of "the rest of us dont care anyway" Really you cannot grasp what love and light means. I hope you learn that it does matter what your brothers and sisters opinions are because in the end we all return home together. We all come from God and we all return to God. The only mission in life is to know him. Not to judge others. If someone stumbles you help them up and smile. You don;t condemn them to "where you're headed" because no one deserves this.
Let his light show the way
@ Charles 69
Organized Religion is a joke and it really doesn't matter which denomination you prefer. There's money to be made and crooked hypocrites, posing as pastors only getting rich from it. Then you have the supposed "good people", flocking to church, singing and waving their hands in the air... i replied to you in the wrong spot by mistake. it's above
Depending if people like me give enough of a @#!$ to listen. I don't need to be told how to live my life, I can make those choices myself.
Thank you for posting this article!! It cracks me up that people selectively choose natural events to attribute to relgion...
Wow. There's something for everybody, isn't there? I wonder if they have an annual convention?
I appreciate clouds but I don't pay dues and I definitely don't need no stinking badge.
Kind of like the same way I feel about religions.
It really looks like if you look at it closely enough it really looks like an angel of Satan. See the tiny horns?
I seen an angel form in a piece of sh!t I took an hour ago.....scary.....
If God sent this as a sign for POPE2013, why wasn't it over the VATICAN? I saw a sign the night of OBAMA2012, but it didn't actually take shape until the water started to swirl in the bowl, so I didn't get a picture.
That sign was your own hateful face. Too bad the rest of your negativity didn't go down the bowl with it.
Nope- Looked a lot more like clueless demagoguraphy to me. Hate is hate, commentary is commentary, and sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
@Charles69... First things first. Angels do not have wings, only cherubs do. Angels with wings are man made images. Secondly, the first worshipers of Jesus were meeting on Sundays, long before the Catholic church ever came into existence. The were forced to meet on Sunday because they were not allowed to speak of Jesus in temple on the Sabbath, which was set into law with Moses to teach obedience. There was no 'Sabbath' before the Israelites left Egypt. You sound like you're one of these people that listen to preachers like Michael Rood, who are preaching Christians should be living under the Torah. Rubbish! That would be saying the Jesus went to the cross for nothing. You can't live under the law and that is why Jesus gave His life for all who will accept Him as Lord. Lastly, Jesus preached love and peace, and only a fool or a head knowledge Christian will argue the bible with those who will not accept the Gospels and believe in Jesus. If you are a brother in Jesus, then stop trying to antagonize those would argue for argument sake.
So you're saying that Jesus is above God? We should change everything for Jesus? Jesus is the son of God and preached to us the wisdom of God. He himself stated his teachings aren't his but his fathers. I know that early Christians met on Sundays and it wasn't exclusive to Sunday either. Of course the sabbath existed before exodus. The sabbath is the last day of the week. The day god rested after making the world. It wasn't a new concept to the Jewish. What was new was the doctrine that Moses wrote. He wrote the stories passed down to preserve them. The fact remains that Jesus was a Jew and quoted the Torah. Why? Because God's law was what he followed. Why wouldn't a christian follow the Torah? You don't have to be Jewish to believe in God. So why should you limit yourself to a corrupt doctrine that was made by the catholic church... picking and choosing what people should or should not know. The new testament is incomplete.
Also Jesus didn't die because he didn't preach the Torah. He was a rabbi after all. He died to save us. If you think he died fr something jewish then you're not grasping it. Believing the old testament is essential as a christian. God our father bore a son to the Jews for a reason.
I know you mean well but you really do not understand the whole picture. So before telling me what I should or should not say maybe you should pray for good knowledge. My good sir it comes if you ask for it.
ClearwaterAl: unfortunately your facts are not quite accurate. The Way, as were called the early believers in Yahushua, the actual name of the Son of God, met in the synagogues in the area. The Last supper was in a synagogue (not what is depicted in DaVinci's "last supper) and even one painting had a roast pig on the table...they did not meet on the first day,(it was not called sunday then, but they continued to meet on the Sabbath until the europeans(Marcion in particular) choose to change everything and invent a totally new religion..there is no "new" covenant: if you would check the Hebrew you would find the word translate "renewed" not a totally new document. In fact the covenant that was renewed was the Abrahamic covenant and that is what God follows. I am wondering if some of you people have ever read the Bible. You are right, clearwater, the "Old Testament" has not passed away, and the only thing that has been abolished was the animal sacrifice and the earthly priesthood since we now have a High Priest who lives forever and is not subject to human failures.Yahushua was killed primarily because He withstood the religious leaders who had put the people into bondage by their rules and man made laws; also He established His position with the Father and that posed a threat to the priesthood of the time...they knew that if He were correct they would be out of a job and 70 years later they really were. I might add that much misunderstanding is caused by using translations for authority....the only inspired scripture is that written in Hebrew and Aramaic as inspired by God. The Europeans tweaked the Bible to suit their own purposes and that is why there are 2,500 different denominations all claiming they have the absolute truth and will fight to the death to keep their man made traditions and doctrines. As far as the cloud is concerned, what does it hurt if someone is helped by seeing it...does that hurt you or distract anything from you? The Pope is just a man like any other and I do not think anyone believes in ex Cathedra anymore or do they believe that every word spoken by the Pope is directly from God. He just has the job of trying to keep his orginization from tearing itself apart and keeping some of his priests from molesting little boys...(let the priests get married and most of that problem would trake care of itself.) I feel sorry for the poor guy he is in for one hellofa ride!!
Wouldn't it be nice if people just saw the beauty in the image instead of using their comments to post negativity, hatred and spite? It is a lovely natural phenomenon. If people see hope in that, so be it. So many commenters just can't post anything unless it is hateful.
You can believe you will fail or believe you will succeed. Either way you will be correct. Or, as is attributed to Einstein, nothing is a miracle, or everything is.
If this was some sort of sign about the new pope, then why didn't it appear over Rome or Buenos Aires?
Those who look for physical manifestations of the divine of the type suggested here are implicitly assuming that manifestations of the divine are so rare that this sort of thing can have meaning, which in turn suggests that the divine has only limited power, resulting in difficulties in generating manifestations more meaningful than random patterns in clouds or French toast. That sort of faith is no faith at all, and the people who play to those who don't know any better are charlatans and con artists.
Maybe it's the Marlins and Angels in the World Series?
Carl Jung would probably say this cloud angel was an example of synchronicity, or meaningul coincidence. Thus, to say it is purely a physical phenomenon misses this point and the opportunity to put it into another perspective.
Plus, who are these "experts" who say it is a purely physical phenomen? I suspect they are what I call "pure"scientists, perhaps meterologists, and these people tend toward the atheistic. So, of course to them it is a purely physical phenomen, but that is based upon their assumption that there is no God. And since science can't prove a negative, at the most a truly scientific person can only be agnostic. They may believe there is no God, but there is no scientific proof.
If there is God and God is able to do all those things God is purported to do, then God could easily make a cloud angel or cheese sandwith Jesus or whatever. Yes, there is no proof of that either, based upon how science presently defines itself, but at least I try and be consistent and may say I doubt it, but at least I don't say NO! in the authorative way these so called "experts" do. This NO! exceeds what is scientific and is one of the big reasons we're so screwed up about religion and science these days. On the other hand, most all religions need to "fess up" to the scientific age and drop things like the earth is 6,000 years old, or at least be agnostic about it and say, well maybe it isn't 6000 years old...
One can be scientific and spiritual...but probably not radically religious based upon what is required to be in that genre. So, both sides of this argument are at fault and we are finally at a point where we can resolve this to a very large degree...but only if both sides will compromise in their beliefs. However, in this they are like the American Congress: totally screwed up and willing to destroy the baby since they don't like the bathwater. If we don't start resolving these issues now that we have the ability, we will make the schism between science and religion even larger..something China would LOVE to see as that weakens America even more. So, think on this. This is a lot of things we still don't know and a lot of wonder left in the world, both physical and spiritual.
Natural events like this are what is behind the reported " miracles " of the Bible.
Many people are ignorant now but imagine how much worse it was 2000 years ago when there were no schools and no one knew how to read except the priest class and < some > of the rulers.
that is untrue Arizona Willie: the Hebrew people had their sons memorize the scriptures very early and by the time they were 12 they could recite the first five books of the Scriptures. To become a priest a boy had to continue on memorizing the Word and show that he was worthy to go on until he had the entire Scripture comitted to memory. Then he could become a priest if he were of the tribe of Levi and could prove his genetic connection to Aaron In the synagogue every man was availabble to read freomthe Scrolls as chosen by the congregation.
So, the Hebrew people made their sons memorize the occurrence of natural events and their religious interpretation of them.
